Women's Shorts

Women's merino shorts – wool for warm days too

Merino wool is not only a winter material. The fibre binds up to 30 % of its own weight in moisture without feeling wet, and it slows odour build-up, so the shorts still feel dry when you sweat. In North Outdoor's women's shorts the merino fibre is 17.5–19.5 microns – about one third the thickness of traditional sheep's wool.

Why merino shorts rather than cotton?

Cotton absorbs moisture and stays wet against the skin. Merino fibre binds moisture inside its structure and releases it as vapour, so the surface still feels dry to the touch. Merino also slows odour build-up, which means the same shorts last several wears – useful when travelling or on the trail.

What are women's merino shorts good for?

  • Lightweight everyday styles – for summer, travel and time at home. They also work under a dress or skirt.
  • Biker shorts – close-fitting with a longer leg, so they don't chafe when you move.
  • Merino fleece shorts, 250 g/m² – the warmest option, for cool evenings and the cabin.

Do merino shorts itch?

Prickle comes from wool fibres over 30 microns, which do not bend against the skin but press into it. In these shorts the fibre is 17.5–19.5 microns, so it bends softly and does not trigger a prickle response in most people. Skin sensitivity is individual, however.

How do you wash merino shorts?

At 30 °C on a wool or delicate programme, with a wool detergent of pH 7 or lower. No fabric softener, no tumble dryer. Most of the time no wash is needed at all – airing is enough. Always check the care label.
